Thai Meteorological Department Warns of Stormy Weather Oct 4-7
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued its fourth weather warning for October 4–7, predicting thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain across upper Thailand. Flash floods and overflow are possible, especially in northern, northeastern, central, eastern and upper southern areas. Mariners are advised to avoid sailing in thunderstorm zones where waves may exceed two metres.
The Thai Meteorological Department announced its fourth weather warning for October 4–7, stating that upper Thailand will experience variable weather with thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and heavy to very heavy rain in some localities. On October 4, the upper northern and eastern areas and the northeastern region will be affected. From October 5 to 6, the northern, central (including Bangkok and vicinity), eastern and upper southern regions will see the weather, while the northeastern region expects reduced rain. On October 7, the western northern and central areas plus the southern region will be impacted, with other areas seeing less rain. The weather pattern is due to late-season high pressure or cold air from China moving down over northern and upper northeastern Thailand, causing early thunderstorms while the southwest monsoon still covers the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is advised to beware of dangers from thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy and accumulated rain that could cause flash floods and overflow, especially in sloping areas near waterways and low-lying spots prone to pooling; avoid open spaces, sheltering under large trees, and weak billboards. Sea waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are expected to strengthen, with waves exceeding two metres in thunderstorm areas; mariners should check routes, navigate cautiously, and avoid boating in thunderstorm zones. From October 8 to 12, the eastern and southern regions will continue to experience rain, heavy to very heavy in some places, and the public should closely follow forecasts.
