The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation launched the Chef Graduation & Career Day 2026 in Khon Kaen, the first of four regional events aimed at developing Thai culinary talent. Dr. Wanee Nonthasiri said the programme reflects the ministry’s vision to “raise people to power Thailand” by using Thai food to connect learning, skill development, industry standards and economic opportunity. The “One Village One Thai Chef” project has trained more than 2,000 learners nationwide through a network of over 72 training centres. Participants must complete 240 hours – 90 hours of e‑learning and 150 hours of hands‑on practice – covering 50 Thai dishes and pass skill tests and professional certification to be ready for immediate work. The Khon Kaen event highlights the Northeast’s role as a source of local ingredients, food wisdom and a new generation eager to turn regional identity into careers and businesses, linking community economies with modern domestic and international markets. Highlights included awarding certificates for the Professional Thai Chef (Master Thai Chef Programme), an inspiration talk titled “Igniting Thai Chefs Toward the Professional Stage – Chef Graduation and Career Day 2026” featuring the Department of Skill Development, Chef Bus – Thawatchai Akrawongwattana, and platforms LINE MAN and Wongnai POS. The afternoon Career Opportunity & The Culinary Showcase let leading hotels and restaurants interview trainees and gave aspiring entrepreneurs a chance to connect with online delivery services, financial institutions such as SME D Bank and Government Savings Bank, enabling Thai chefs to become professionals, entrepreneurs and cultural ambassadors. A special demonstration by Chef Bus – Thawatchai Akrawongwattana showcased techniques using dishes like “golden‑cup pork larb” and “grilled pork neck panang or som tam”, employing familiar ingredients in forms that can be adapted for business‑menu development. Dr. Wanee Nonthasiri added that when a chef gains employment and income, the benefits extend to families, farmers, ingredient producers, service businesses, tourism and community enterprises, forming an economic chain that leverages local cultural capital and flavors to create new value. This initiative marks another step in Thailand’s Soft Power strategy, beginning with systematic human‑capital development under the Thailand² concept – building vocational food‑sector talent from cultural knowledge, high‑level skills, uniform national standards, professional certification and business linkages so Thai chefs and entrepreneurs can add value to local food and compete internationally.
