Thai Mountain Biker Punsiri Finishes 10th at Asian Games
Thai mountain biker Punsiri Siriamongkol finished 10th at the Asian Games cross-country cycling event in Nagoya, Japan, while China's Yuan Jinwei claimed gold.
The 20th Asian Games cycling competition was held in Nagoya, Japan on September 25 at Oeta Ryukushi Park, with one gold medal contested in the men's cross-country mountain bike event. Two Thai athletes competed: Punsiri Siriamongkol and Pongpeeya Pong-aimgul. The race drew 14 riders from 8 nations competing over 8 laps at a distance of 37.3 kilometers. Punsiri delivered a solid performance, crossing the finish line in 10th place with a time of 1 hour 34 minutes 15 seconds, while Pongpeeya took 11th but was cut off along with three other riders from Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, and Nepal.
The gold medal went to Yuan Jinwei of China in 1 hour 25 minutes 15 seconds. The silver medal was won by Tatsumi Soejima of Japan in 1 hour 25 minutes 18 seconds, and the bronze medal went to Ferry Yudoyono of Indonesia in 1 hour 25 minutes 41 seconds.
The next cycling event at the 20th Asian Games is the BMX competition on September 28, with two gold medals up for grabs in the men's and women's BMX racing events. The Thai team includes Gomet Sukpraset, Puttaboom Nakpan, Chutikan Kijvannichsthian, and Hathaipetch Jaisawan.
