Thai Official Says Flood Warning System Matches Global Standards
Thailand's deputy interior minister said the country's flood warning system meets global standards but needs simpler communication for local communities. He made the remarks during a parliamentary debate on flood preparedness in the south, where opposition MPs urged better weather forecasting and early alerts. The minister added that authorities have boosted readiness since previous floods, while stressing that nature cannot be stopped.
Worasil Liangsaprat confirmed that the government's flood warning technology matches that of other nations, but acknowledged that the current approach is too academic and difficult for the public to understand. He said adjustments are needed to make information clearer and more accessible. Since past floods, authorities have strengthened preparations across various areas, recognizing that while nature cannot be controlled, readiness for incoming events must be ensured.
