Thai PM Anutin Celebrates 60th Birthday at Home
PM Anutin Charupong turns 60 on September 13, planning a quiet family celebration at home with merit-making rather than formal ceremonies. The premier said his only wishes are for Thailand's strength and prosperity, not personal gifts.
On September 12 at 5:15 p.m., Prime Minister Anutin Charupong, also Interior Minister and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, wore a special Sirivannavari collection Team Thailand shirt to show support for Thai athletes competing in the 20th Asian Games. He visited Charista coffee shop located below the party headquarters and gave an interview ahead of his 60th birthday on September 13.
Anutin said he has already made merit at Thai temples in Norway, and plans no formal celebrations for his birthday. "Tomorrow I will make merit at home simply with my family—no ceremonies, no parties. I'm traveling a lot these days, so I prefer to stay quiet with family," he explained. When asked what he wishes for, he said he asks every year simply to "stay"—wishing for Thailand to be strong and prosperous, and for Thai people to be happy. These two wishes, he said, are worth more than any gift.
Regarding the term "60th birthday" or "Saiyid" in Thai-Chinese culture, Anutin confirmed it marks five complete 12-year cycles. He emphasized that his only personal wishes are for national strength and people's happiness rather than anything for himself. When asked about remaining in office, Anutin noted he has completed one year as Prime Minister with seven years remaining under the constitution's eight-year limit, but said his tenure depends on government stability and continued parliamentary support.
