Thai Sprinter Phuripol Breaks Asian Games Record in 100m
Thai sprinter Phuripol Bunsoan won gold in the men's 100m at the Asian Games with a record-breaking time of 9.90 seconds, Thailand's first men's sprint gold in 48 years.
Phuripol Bunsoan, a 20-year-old Thai sprinter, has broken the Asian Games record for the men's 100 metres, claiming gold at the 20th Asian Games held at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on September 25, in the second day of competition. In the semi-final, Phuripol ran down the track and crossed the finish line first with a time of 9.91 seconds, breaking the previous Asian Games record of 9.92 seconds set by China's Su Bing Tian at the 2018 Asian Games, and advancing to the final in impressive fashion. In the final, despite a slow start, Phuripol accelerated through the middle of the race and crossed the finish line first with a time of 9.90 seconds, breaking his own Asian Games record from the semi-final. This is Thailand's first men's 100-metre gold medal at the Asian Games in 48 years, since Suchat Chaesurapat won the gold with a time of 10.44 seconds at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok.
