Thai Sprinter Phuriphol Breaks Asian Games Record in 100m
Thai sprinter Phuriphol Bunyasoan set a new Asian Games record with a time of 9.91 seconds in the men's 100m semifinal at the Nagoya Games on September 25, breaking the previous mark by China's Su Bingtian.
Twenty-year-old Thai sprinter Phuriphol Bunyasoan won the men's 100-meter semifinal at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya on September 25, 2026, with a dominant performance and a time of 9.91 seconds, breaking the previous Asian Games record of 9.92 seconds set by Su Bingtian of China at the 2018 Asian Games. Phuriphol had advanced to the semifinal by winning his heat in the qualifying round with a time of 9.95 seconds, his best performance of the year and the fastest qualifying time overall. His teammate Chutithat Pruksranant finished eighth in Heat 3 of the semifinals with a time of 10.53 seconds and did not advance to the final, which is scheduled for 20:20 Thailand time. Phuriphol's personal best remains 9.94 seconds, set at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games held in Thailand late last year.
