Thai teen Nene Royal, a 16-year-old singer-guitarist from Phuket, won America's Got Talent Season 21, impressing judges with performances of rock classics and earning praise from Thailand's prime minister.
Prime Minister Anuthina Charnweerakul has congratulated Nene Royal, a 16-year-old Thai artist and singer-guitarist from Phuket, on winning America's Got Talent Season 21, according to a statement released by government spokesperson Ploy Talay Laksmeesamson on September 24. The prime minister, who is currently on an official visit to New York, praised her ability, determination, and perseverance throughout the competition, which brought pride to Thailand. In the final round held on September 22 at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, Nene performed "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes, with results announced on September 23 local time. Throughout the competition, Nene impressed judges from her audition with a rendition of "Zombie" by The Cranberries, earning four yes votes, and later received the Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B for her performance of "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden in the Live Quarterfinals, earning a direct pass to the final. The prime minister stated that Nene's success demonstrates that Thai youth have potential equal to anyone in the world, and he pledged government support to create more opportunities for Thai children and youth to develop their abilities to their full potential and bring pride to the nation through their achievements.
