Thai Windsurfers Target Two Bronze Medals at Asian Games 2026
Thai windsurfers are in contention for two bronze medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan after weather delays allowed competition to resume on October 1-2. William McMillan lies third in the men's IQ Foil open class, while Chanatchakon Charoensuk is third in the women's under-19 division. Both athletes must hold their positions in the final day of racing to secure the medals.
In the men's IQ Foil open class, William McMillan (Thai-Australian) sailed 11 races, incurred 25 penalty points and sits third behind South Korea's Lee Tae-hoon (20 points) and ahead of Hong Kong's Cheng Ching-yan (29 points). He admits catching silver is tough but must stay ahead of Cheng for bronze. In the women's under-19 IQ Foil, Chanatchakon Charoensuk completed 10 races with 27 points, also third, behind Japan's Akari Oshima (18 points) and ahead of South Korea's Baek Gayoon (33 points); maintaining form should secure her a bronze. The women's open class saw Siriporn Kaewduangngam in 10 races with 43 points (sixth), and the men's under-19 class Wachiravit Thanop also 10 races with 43 points (sixth). The Thai team is managed by Ek Boonsawat, with coaches Sakda Sukulaeng and Natthaphon Phoenopparat. One day of racing remains on October 3, with five races scheduled; forecasts call for light winds, and if racing cannot proceed only completed races will count.
