Thai Windsurfing Team Heads to Nagoya for Asian Games 2026
Thailand's windsurfing team has departed for Nagoya to prepare for the 2026 Asian Games, with athletes arriving early to acclimate to competition conditions before racing begins September 26.
Thailand's first windsurfing team has traveled to Nagoya to prepare for the 20th Asian Games, scheduled for September 19 to October 4, 2026, in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. In the early morning of September 8, 2026, the advance team departed on Thai Airways International flight TG 644 to acclimate to wind conditions, weather, and sea state at the competition venue. The group includes athletes Siriporn Kaew Duang Ngam (IQFoil Women's Open), Chanathakan Charoen Suk (IQFoil Women Under-19), coach Nattapong Podi Noprat, and sports scientist Somphop Sakdi. Additional athletes William McMillan (IQFoil Men's Open) and Wachirwit Tanop (IQFoil Men Under-19) will join on September 14 with coach Sakda Skullfang.
Pattana Bunsawat, Secretary-General of the Thailand Windsurfing Association, stated that the 20th Asian Games will award four gold medals in windsurfing, with competition beginning September 26, 2026. The association sent athletes early to familiarize themselves with actual competition conditions and ensure maximum preparation. Meanwhile, a separate IQFoil windsurfing team will compete in an international windsurfing event in South Korea from September 9-14, 2026, featuring athletes Nitiphattana Chaiyawutyawet, Wachirwit Manbuamrung, and Ratchanon Khun Cheng.
