Thai Women's Football Team Begins Japan Training Ahead of Asian Games
Thailand's women's football team began training in Japan on Tuesday ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in September, where they'll face Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam in the group stage.
Thailand's women's football team completed its first training session at Shizuoka Ecopa Stadium after arriving in Shizuoka, Japan, to prepare for the 20th Asian Games women's football tournament running from September 14 to October 2, 2026. The Thai squad is in Group E alongside host nation Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam, competing in a round-robin format where the group champion, runner-up, and two best third-place finishers from all three groups advance to the knockout stage.
Head coach Alfred Nettipong Sritonginthon led the 90-minute training session with emphasis on physical recovery and helping players acclimatize to temperatures around 26 degrees Celsius, while working on both attacking and defensive tactics. Defender Porpiroon Pila-wan from BGC Bandit Asia expressed confidence that the team is adapting well after preparations in Thailand, noting the balanced squad composition across age groups and the unity forming within the team.
Pila-wan acknowledged Japan as a world-class opponent but stressed the team's commitment to performing at their best, with a personal goal of advancing as far as possible in the tournament. Thailand's group-stage matches are scheduled for September 14 against Japan at 5:30 p.m., September 17 against Taiwan at 2:00 p.m., and September 21 against Vietnam at 5:30 p.m., all at Shizuoka Stadium except the Vietnam match at Nagaio Stadium.
