Thailand Extends Relief Programme Two More Months Through November
Thailand's relief programme has been extended through November with government and citizen cost-sharing, benefiting 26 million enrolled participants who have spent 1.59 trillion baht since June.
The screening committee for Thailand's 400-billion-baht emergency loan fund has approved extending the Thailand Helps Thailand Plus programme by two months, from October to November, using funds from the 200-billion-baht relief allocation. The extension maintains the 60:40 cost-sharing ratio between government and citizens, with cabinet approval expected on September 22. Currently, 26 million people are enrolled in the programme, with cumulative spending of 1.59 trillion baht recorded between June 1 and September 16, comprising 880 billion baht in government contributions and 650 billion baht from citizen spending. Welfare card holders will also receive supplementary assistance proportional to their number of qualifying registrants, beginning October 1. The Finance Ministry permanent secretary confirmed that welfare card applicants who failed the initial screening round will receive Thailand Helps Thailand Plus benefits instead, while approximately 5 million others remain in the rights-review process pending results on September 30.
