Thailand Funds Home Upgrades for Disabled Up to 40,000 Baht
Thailand’s government is allocating up to 40,000 baht per household to modify homes for disabled persons, covering upgrades like ramps, grab bars, and accessible bathrooms. Lt. Phatdarassmai Thongsluaykorn said the program aims to promote self-reliance and equal access to basic rights. Eligible applicants must meet disability, residency, housing, and income criteria, and can apply via provincial social offices or the Bangkok disability service center.
The government will provide a maximum of 40,000 baht per household for home modifications that suit each individual's disability type and needs, including bathroom upgrades, wheelchair ramps, grab bar installations, and repairs to hazardous parts of the house. Modifications must align with the project's objectives to genuinely benefit disabled residents. To qualify, applicants must hold a disability certificate, have lived in the residence for the required period, live in unsuitable or unstable housing, and have insufficient income; past government assistance will also be considered. Eligibility verification, home assessments, and suitability reviews will be conducted by the responsible agencies. The budget is not a cash grant but is allocated based on individual need and prescribed procedures to maximize benefit. Disabled individuals or their families can apply through provincial Social Development and Human Security offices, provincial disability service centers, or local administrative bodies such as municipalities and subdistrict organizations. In Bangkok, applicants may contact the Bangkok Disability Service Center or its branches, or call the Social Development hotline 1300, available 24 hours a day. Lt. Phatdarassmai Thongsluaykorn emphasized that a safe home should not be a struggle for disabled people, noting that even a single ramp, accessible bathroom, or proper grab bar can significantly improve daily life, fostering independence, safety, and dignity on par with the rest of society.
