Thailand Launches AI Center to Boost Smart Manufacturing
Thailand established an AI Innovation and Technology Center through a partnership between the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Mahidol University to help manufacturers adopt AI solutions and reduce reliance on foreign technology. The initiative
The Thai Chamber of Commerce, Mahidol University, and the Future Industries Technology and Innovation Management Fund have announced a partnership to establish the AI Innovation and Technology Center on September 18, 2025. The collaboration will advance the "AI Innovation for Manufacturing" program, creating a complete AI ecosystem framework spanning workforce development, expert consulting, virtual technology testing, and funding for AI solutions designed for real factory applications. The initiative aims to reduce Thailand's dependence on foreign technology and strengthen the competitiveness of Thai industry through intelligent manufacturing.
The partnership comes amid rapid global AI advancement that is transforming work and production processes worldwide. Thailand currently faces a significant gap between demand for AI adoption and the actual capacity to develop and implement AI solutions. Many Thai business operators face barriers in accessing technology suited to their needs, particularly costly AI solutions, reliance on foreign solutions, and uncertainty about return on investment.
The AI Innovation and Technology Center serves as a central mechanism supporting entrepreneurs throughout their transition to AI-driven manufacturing, from consulting and designing AI application strategies to enhancing production efficiency, developing AI workforce skills at all levels, and co-creating technology with the private sector to deliver practical solutions. The center covers future technologies including Physical AI, AI Edge Computing, and Digital Twin, with testing facilities for AI models and hardware, plus connections to e-factory automation parks.
The center also plans to expand AI applications to other critical sectors such as healthcare and smart cities. The Future Industries Technology and Innovation Management Fund will use co-funding mechanisms to pair ready businesses with system integrators, software developers, and Thai AI technology entrepreneurs. This approach will support workforce skill development to ensure long-term self-sufficiency in technology maintenance and innovation.
