Thailand, Malaysia Deepen Defense Cooperation on Southern Border Peace
Thai and Malaysian defense ministers met to strengthen bilateral cooperation on border security and peace efforts in Thailand's southern provinces, emphasizing information sharing and joint initiatives to achieve regional stability.
Thai Defense Minister General Anucha Boonyarathaplin visited Malaysia on July 29 to hold bilateral talks with Malaysian Defense Minister Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, focusing on strengthening security and defense cooperation between the two nations. During the discussions, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to elevating strategic security cooperation to address evolving security challenges and enhance regional stability.
The ministers exchanged views on the situation in Thailand's southern border provinces, with the Thai side reporting progress on peace process initiatives while ensuring public safety and security, improving quality of life, and building confidence among all stakeholders. Both defense ministers agreed on the importance of close coordination in information sharing, border security enhancement, and support for peace-building efforts to achieve mutual stability, security, and prosperity.
General Anucha stated that Thailand highly values its strong relationship with Malaysia as a neighboring country and important security partner, and affirmed that the Thai government will work closely with Malaysia based on mutual trust, respect, and shared interests to promote lasting peace in Thailand's southern border area. "Sustainable peace emerges from cooperation, sincerity, and concrete action," General Anucha said. "Thailand is ready to work alongside Malaysia to build security and a stable future for the people of both nations."
