Thailand Open Cycling Championship Returns to Historic Si Satchanalai
The Thailand Open Cycling Championship returns to historic Si Satchanalai on Dec 5-6, featuring mountain bike and road races for a royal trophy amid UNESCO heritage routes.
General Decha Hemkrasi, Deputy President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), President of the ASEAN Cycling Federation (ACF), and President of the Thai Cycling Association under Royal Patronage, revealed that the association is partnering with Si Satchanalai Municipality in Sukhothai province to host the Thailand Open mountain bike and road cycling national championships. The race competes for the royal trophy bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya and takes place on December 5-6. Live coverage will stream on the Thailand Cycling Association Facebook page and TCA YouTube channel for both competition days.
General Decha stated that the previous Thailand Open in Si Satchanalai attracted nationwide cyclists eager to ride routes tracing historical landmarks. The association tasked its technical team, led by Deputy Technical Director Wisut Kasiayapat ("Coach Tom"), to survey and finalize the race courses.
"After competing, cyclists can visit sites such as Si Satchanalai Historical Park, part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat (Wat Phra Prang Chaliang), Wat Chang Lom, Wat Chedi Ched Thaew, Wat Nang Phaya, the Sangkhalok Kiln Study and Conservation Center (Turiang Kilns), and the Ban Na Ton Chan cultural tourism community," General Decha said.
He added that Mayor Chaiya Bunkeaw recently informed him about the "Yon Ati Si Satchanalai: Wear Thai Silk, Wear Gold, Ancient Patterns" festival running December 6-10 at Si Satchanalai Historical Park. Cyclists and spectators can experience ancient arts, culture, and traditions, which is expected to significantly stimulate the local economy, increase income for vendors and entrepreneurs, and further promote Si Satchanalai tourism. He urged participating cyclists to book accommodations immediately before they fill up.
Mayor Chaiya Bunkeaw confirmed Si Satchanalai Municipality is fully prepared, particularly the scenic race routes passing historical sites. Coordination with police, public health officials, highway department, and the Volunteer Rescue Foundation is underway. District Chief Ekasit Wailasin has ordered all units to prepare thoroughly for cyclist safety and to create a memorable experience for all.
