The government is inviting Thai men aged 18–26 interested in a military career to apply for the Volunteer Soldier programme for 2027. Applications are open from September 10, 2026 to January 24, 2027, and can be submitted online at http://rcm.rta.mi.th or in person at any of 221 Army units nationwide, as well as at provincial and district recruitment offices.
The Army is recruiting 18,784 volunteers under this new scheme, which replaces the previous online soldier programme. Applicants can choose their preferred posting and unit from locations across the country. Volunteer soldiers serve on four-year contracts with training and duties identical to regular conscripts but receive enhanced benefits: a starting salary of 12,090 baht per month plus a special allowance of 2,880 baht monthly for meals.
After two years of service, volunteers become eligible for quota spots in the Army Non-Commissioned Officers Academy entrance exam, with 453 reserved seats representing 30 percent of the regular conscript quota and 80 percent of total NCO seats. Additionally, volunteers gain an initial five percent bonus on academic examination scores when applying for permanent Army positions, with potential for further advancement. The programme also offers professional skill training and evening education to improve qualifications during service. The government emphasised that volunteers will receive comprehensive support, career development opportunities, and evolving welfare benefits aligned with current needs.
