Bangkok and its surrounding areas are expected to receive rainfall in 80 percent of the region, with warnings issued for flash flooding and flash floods. The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates persistent rainfall with particularly heavy downpours in parts of the western North, lower Northeast, central region, Bangkok metropolitan area, and eastern regions.
Heavy rainfall is being driven by a high-pressure system and cool air mass descending over the upper North and upper Northeast, pushing the monsoon trough southward through the lower North, upper central, and Northeast regions toward a strengthening low-pressure system over the central South China Sea. The southwest monsoon continues to bring moderate winds across the Andaman Sea, southern region, central area, east, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Between September 11-13, the lower Northeast, central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, eastern region, and South will continue experiencing persistent rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy downpours. The North and upper Northeast will see rainfall decrease during this period.
Authorities urge residents in affected areas to remain alert for flash flooding and flash floods, particularly in Mekong basin areas, foothill regions near waterways, and lowlands. Travelers should avoid routes prone to repeated flooding, especially low-lying areas where water may accumulate. A low-pressure system over the central South China Sea is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone between September 11-13, with movement toward northern Vietnam on September 14-15.
Wave conditions in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are moderate, with the northern Andaman Sea expecting waves around 2 meters and higher waves exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution and avoid thunderstorm zones.
Current regional forecasts show the North experiencing thunderstorms in 70 percent of areas with heavy rain in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and other northern provinces, with very heavy rain expected in Tak and Kamphaeng Phet. The Northeast faces 70 percent thunderstorm coverage with heavy rainfall across multiple provinces including very heavy rain in Nakhon Ratchasima and Buriram. The central region is under 80 percent thunderstorm alerts with heavy rainfall expected.
