The Meteorology Department issued alert number 7 on September 10 warning of severe to very heavy rainfall across Thailand through September 13, 2024. Heavy rain is expected in parts of western northern Thailand, lower northeastern Thailand, central Thailand, Bangkok and its vicinity, and eastern Thailand due to a cold air mass and monsoon trough converging with a strong low-pressure system in the central South China Sea.
During September 11-13, the lower northeastern region, central Thailand, Bangkok, the east, and the south will experience continuous rain with severe to very heavy downpours in some areas, while the north and upper northeast see reduced rainfall as another cold air mass arrives. A strong low-pressure system in the central South China Sea may intensify into a tropical cyclone, with potential movement toward northern Vietnam's coast by September 14-15.
The public is urged to prepare for sudden flash floods and flash flash floods, especially in low-lying areas, hillsides, and along waterways.
