Thailand Orders Ride-App Drivers to Get Public Licenses by September 30
All ride-hailing app drivers must obtain public transport licenses by September 30, 2025, with Thailand's government opening facilities to help drivers complete registration and qualification checks.
The government is moving forward with upgrading ride-hailing services through mobile applications to provide the public with convenient, safe, and quality transportation. Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploypainat Luksameachangchun announced on September 5 that all app-based ride drivers must obtain valid public transport licenses by September 30, 2025, to guarantee safety and build public confidence in the service.
To meet this deadline, the Department of Land Transport has opened facilities at Building 4 to assist Bolt app members with registration and qualification checks. This comes after Bolt temporarily suspended its service to update information in compliance with legal requirements, resulting in a high volume of registrations.
For drivers who lack the required license, the transport authority is fully prepared to facilitate the licensing process. Applicants who complete online training at https://www.dlt-elearning.com should save their QR code certificates as proof. They can then submit travel documents in person at transport offices to take physical fitness tests, theoretical exams, and undergo criminal background checks. Once approved, applicants pay the fee, have their photo taken, and receive their public transport license.
The government, through the Department of Land Transport under the Transport Ministry, will strictly enforce compliance with laws and regulations. The department will monitor service quality, investigate incidents and violations, manage complaints, and coordinate with app providers to ensure quick and effective action, with public safety as the top priority.
