Thailand Orders Swift Burial of Flooded Pig Carcasses in Prachinburi
Thailand’s agriculture minister has ordered the Livestock Department to quickly bury pig carcasses lost in recent floods in Prachinburi province. Officials aim to bury about 1,400 of the roughly 2,000 dead pigs today and finish tomorrow, while disinfecting the area and preparing compensation for affected farmers.
The Livestock Department’s director-general, Chaiwat Yothon, visited Prachinburi province with Deputy Governor Chananthip Kokmunee and local officials to oversee the removal and burial of pig carcasses from flood‑affected farms. Around 2,000 pigs died after sudden flooding submerged farms in Mueang Prachinburi district. Teams aim to bury approximately 1,400 carcasses today and complete the operation tomorrow if no further storms disrupt work, while disinfecting the area to prevent disease. The effort follows a directive from Minister Suriya to assist farmers and manage animal remains quickly. Officials are also collecting information to provide compensation under disaster relief regulations, and reminded the public they can report carcasses or request help via the DLD 4.0 app or local livestock offices.
