Thai Weightlifter Suraswadee Wins Silver at Asian Games
Thai weightlifter Suraswadee Yodsarn claimed silver at the Asian Games in Nagoya, lifting 219kg combined in the women's 57kg event, with North Korea's O Kwang Go taking gold.
Thailand's Suraswadee Yodsarn won the silver medal in the women's 57kg weightlifting event at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya on Friday, competing at the Nagoya City Trade & Industry Center.
Suraswadee produced a clean sweep in the snatch, successfully lifting 92kg, 95kg and 97kg on her three attempts. She then cleared 122kg in her first clean and jerk attempt, securing the silver medal with a combined total of 219kg. The Thai lifter suffered cramps in both legs afterward and decided not to take her second and third attempts.
North Korea's O Kwang Go won gold with a total of 238kg, lifting 104kg in the snatch and 134kg in the clean and jerk. Taiwan's Chen Kuan-ling took bronze with 217kg, consisting of a 95kg snatch and a 122kg clean and jerk.
The result gave Thailand's weightlifting team one silver and two bronze medals at the Games so far. The other two medals came from Surajana Khambao, who won bronze in the women's 53kg category, and Teerapong Silachai, who took bronze in the men's 60kg event.
Under the National Sports Development Fund's medal incentive scheme for the Asian Games, Thai athletes receive 2 million baht for gold, 1 million baht for silver and 500,000 baht for bronze.
