Thai Weightlifter Suruasvadee Claims Silver at Asian Games 2026
Thai weightlifter Suruasvadee Yodsara claimed silver at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, lifting 219 kilograms combined in the women's 57-kilogram category despite leg cramps cutting her competition short.
The 20th Asian Games weightlifting competition took place at Nagoya City Trade and Industry Centre in Nagoya, Japan on 25 September 2026. In the women's 57-kilogram category, Suruasvadee Yodsara, nicknamed "Hong", successfully completed all three snatch lifts at 92, 95, and 97 kilograms. On the clean and jerk, she lifted 122 kilograms on her first attempt, immediately securing a silver medal. She experienced cramping in both legs and did not attempt her second and third lifts. Her combined total was 219 kilograms.
Gold was won by O Kwang Go from North Korea with a total of 238 kilograms (snatch 104 kg, clean and jerk 134 kg). Bronze went to Chen Guan-ling from Taiwan with 217 kilograms (snatch 95 kg, clean and jerk 122 kg).
Thailand's weightlifting team has now earned one silver medal and two bronze medals. The silver came from Suruasvadee Yodsara in the women's 57-kilogram division, while the bronze medals went to Surjana Kambao, nicknamed "Oy", in the women's 53-kilogram category, and Theerpon Silachai, known as "Fang", in the men's 60-kilogram category.
Under Thailand's National Sports Development Fund guidelines, medal bonuses are: gold 2,000,000 baht, silver 1,000,000 baht, and bronze 500,000 baht.
