Thailand Warns of Heavy Rain, Flash Floods in 29 Provinces

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a heavy‑rain warning for 29 provinces across the country, citing risks of flash floods and overflowing streams. The forecast calls for isolated downpours in the south, eastern Northeast and eastern regions, with sea waves potentially exceeding two metres in the Andaman Gulf and Gulf of Thailand. Residents and mariners are advised to take precautions, especially in low‑lying and mountainous areas.

The Meteorological Department issued a 24‑hour forecast for 9 October 2026. In the south, isolated heavy rain is expected; the upper part of the country will see little rain, but heavy downpours are possible in the eastern Northeast and eastern regions. Residents in those areas should beware of heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that could trigger flash floods and forest runoff, particularly on slopes near waterways and low‑lying zones.

The forecast attributes the weather to a high‑pressure system or cold air mass over the upper North and upper Northeast, while southeasterly winds bring moisture from the South China Sea over the eastern Northeast and east, combined with a monsoon trough across the Gulf of Thailand and the south.

For the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, areas with thunderstorms will experience waves higher than two metres; mariners are urged to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in thunderstorm zones.

The detailed outlook from 06:00 today to 06:00 tomorrow is as follows: - North: thunderstorms over 10 % of the area, mainly Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai and Tak; lows 20‑24 °C, highs 32‑35 °C, east winds 10‑20 km/h. - Northeast: thunderstorms over 10 % with isolated heavy rain in Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Amnat Charoen, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani; lows 21‑23 °C, highs 32‑33 °C, east winds 10‑25 km/h. - Central: thunderstorms over 20 % of the area, mostly Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram; lows 23‑26 °C, highs 33‑36 °C, east winds 10‑20 km/h. - East: thunderstorms over 20 % with isolated heavy rain in Chanthaburi and Trat; lows 23‑26 °C, highs 32‑35 °C, northeast winds 10‑30 km/h; sea waves generally under one metre but over two metres in thunderstorm areas. - South (east coast): thunderstorms over 60 % with isolated heavy rain in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Yala and Narathiwat; lows 23‑25 °C, highs 33‑35 °C, variable winds 10‑30 km/h; sea waves under one metre but over two metres in thunderstorm zones. - South (west coast): thunderstorms over 40 % of the area, mostly Phuket, Trang and Satun; lows 24‑25 °C, highs 32‑35 °C, northwest winds 15‑30 km/h; sea waves about one metre but over two metres in thunderstorm areas. - Bangkok and vicinity: thunderstorms over 30 % of the area; lows 25‑27 °C, highs 34‑35 °C, northeast winds 10‑20 km/h.
