Thailand Weather Bureau Warns 67 Provinces of Heavy Rain and Flooding
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns 67 provinces of heavy rainfall and flooding from September 17-20, with waves exceeding 3 meters expected in the Andaman Sea.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued its sixth heavy rainfall warning on September 17, 2025, covering the period from September 17-20, affecting 67 provinces nationwide and warning of strong waves in the Andaman Sea. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to begin in the northern and northeastern regions on September 17, spreading to the central, eastern, and southern regions on September 18. The severe weather is caused by a high-pressure system and cold air mass from China moving into the upper north and upper northeast, forcing the monsoon trough to shift southward across the lower central, eastern, and upper southern regions. The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is also intensifying.
The public is warned to watch for dangers from heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation that may cause flash floods and flash floods, particularly in foothill areas near water channels and low-lying zones. Travel should be avoided on roads prone to repeated flooding, especially in low-lying basins where water may accumulate quickly. Waves in the Andaman Sea are moderately strong, with heights of 2-3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should exercise caution and avoid thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the Andaman Sea should not leave shore between September 17-20.
