Court Accepts Challenge to Senate Approvals in Professional Group Dispute
Thailand's Supreme Court will hear arguments challenging the senate approval of two Amnat Charoen candidates whose occupational classifications are disputed, with a hearing scheduled for late October.
The Supreme Court's election division has accepted a petition filed by reserve senator Akkrawat Pongsathanacholitkul under Article 44 of the Senate Selection Act, seeking to overturn Election Commission rulings and disqualify two Amnat Charoen senate candidates. The petitioner alleges that Daeng Kongma and Somphan Palasak, who listed their occupations as fresh pork vendors and noodle soup sellers respectively, were incorrectly certified in professional category 10 (other business operators) when their actual trades fall under category 19 (independent professions and traders). The court reviewed the petition, case number ES Senate 10/2569, on September 9 and found sufficient grounds to schedule an evidence hearing for October 27, 2569, at 10:00 a.m. The hearing notice has been posted at the Supreme Court building and published online to inform all parties.
