Israeli Ambassador Meets Chiang Mai Officials on Tourism and Cooperation
Israeli Ambassador Dr. Alona Fischer Kam met with Chiang Mai officials to explore cooperation in tourism, security, agriculture, and technology, while highlighting strong Thai-Israeli ties including 65,000 Thai workers employed in Israel.
On September 17, Israeli Ambassador to Thailand Dr. Alona Fischer Kam met with Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Siwakorn Buapong at the Provincial Hall in Chiang Mai, accompanied by provincial officials and tourism police. Both parties discussed cooperation in key areas including economy, academics, tourism, border security, technology, agriculture, and cybersecurity.
Deputy Governor Siwakorn stated that Chiang Mai attracts tourists from around the world and that all sectors are prepared to ensure visitor safety and facilitate foreigners of all nationalities. He expressed willingness to promote cooperation with Israel across all fields.
Ambassador Fischer Kam noted that approximately 65,000 Thai workers currently work in Israel. Despite Middle East tensions, the number of Thai workers in Israel continues to grow, and she confirmed they receive proper care and safety. Israel has recently increased its agricultural labor quota from 16,000 to 18,000 workers per year. However, some employment remains on a business-to-business basis rather than through government-to-government agreements, which could be expanded in future arrangements.
The Israeli ambassador thanked Chiang Mai for its support and mentioned the local Israeli community that meets regularly on Fridays. She expressed hope to develop relations between Israel and Chiang Mai across multiple dimensions, particularly in tourism, to strengthen ties between the two sides.
