The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has warned the public to exercise caution after discovering forged documents and messages being shared on social media that falsely claim to represent PEA. These scams involve notifications about electricity meter changes, payment collection, and deposit refunds, along with fraudulent LINE accounts using the name "PEA Thailand" to deceive customers. PEA firmly states that all such documents and accounts are fake and have not been issued by the authority.
Red flags in forged documents include letter formats and wording that do not comply with official government standards; requests for payment or money transfers, which PEA does not collect upfront; inconsistent or suspicious personal information; multiple attached documents designed to appear legitimate such as receipts or certificates; and urgent language pressuring immediate action or informal communication styles.
PEA has emphasized key facts: the authority has no policy to collect payments or accept transfers to personal accounts; PEA does not directly contact electricity users to conduct transactions; staff carrying out operations such as meter changes or electrical inspections must display identification at all times; and service payments must only be made through official PEA channels.
Customers should use only official PEA channels: the LINE Official Account @PEAThailand (marked with a green shield verification), the website www.pea.co.th, and the PEA Smart Plus application available only through the App Store and Play Store. The public is advised not to believe documents from unofficial sources, not to transfer money or share personal information with unverifiable persons, not to add suspicious LINE contacts, and to block and report any suspicious activity immediately. For more information, contact PEA offices in your area or call the PEA Contact Center at 1129, available 24 hours daily.
