TMD Issues Severe Weather Warning for Thailand Nov 5-9
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for November 5-9, covering thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy rain across upper Thailand, followed by heavy to very heavy rainfall in the South. The alert highlights risks of flash floods and mudslides in southern provinces, and warns mariners of waves over two meters in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) released Announcement No. 8 (291/2569) on November 5, 2026, at 05:00, covering severe weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rain in the South from November 5-9.
From November 5-7, upper Thailand will experience severe conditions including thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and isolated heavy rain. The Northeast will be affected first, followed by the North, Central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), and the East. Residents are warned of dangers from thunderstorms and strong winds, and advised to avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards.
From November 7-9, the South will see increased rainfall with heavy to very heavy rain in many areas. Authorities warn of accumulated rain triggering flash floods and mudslides, especially in foothills near waterways and low-lying areas. This is driven by a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China extending over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, strengthening easterly winds across Thailand and the Gulf.
In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves will exceed 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Mariners in the Gulf and Andaman should navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones.
For safety, the public should plan activities and travel carefully during this period. Continuous updates are available on the TMD website (www.tmd.go.th) or via hotlines 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, 24 hours a day. The next announcement will be issued on November 5 at 17:00.
