The Tourism Department continues to track the development of the San Kampang hot springs project in Mae On district, Chiang Mai, which is being carried out according to the royal initiative. At a meeting on October 12, 2026 chaired by Deputy Director‑General Woratheera Suwannason, with Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Chatchawal Panya and agency heads present, participants reviewed progress since the last meeting, including budget approvals, infrastructure upgrades, and plans for a drinking‑water facility run by the Government Pharmaceutical Organization to better utilize the spring’s mineral water. The project, targeting completion by 2029, has a budget for civil works, utilities, public amenities and tourism facilities. However, data from October 6, 2026 show that only 4.15% of the planned construction has been finished, whereas the schedule called for 29.55% completion, leaving the work about 25.40% behind and roughly 228 days delayed. The meeting also discussed adjustments to construction layouts and the development of commemorative buildings to keep the project aligned with sustainable tourism goals.
