At 10 a.m. on September 29, 2569, the Samut Prakan rescue center received a report of a building collapse with a resident trapped inside a dormitory in Khlong Na subdistrict, Mueang district, Samut Prakan province. The two-story concrete structure contained 20 rooms with severe cracks along the lower walls, particularly in room 104, and the staircase had subsided. The building tilted backward and leaned to the right.
Rescue teams found a 28-year-old man trapped in room 104 because the building's collapse had wedged the door frame shut. The landlord used a hammer to break down the door and safely extracted him. Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman stood outside crying because her Pomeranian dog remained trapped in another room. The 58-year-old landlord and staff carefully entered to retrieve the dog and returned it safely.
The landlord's wife, 57, recalled hearing the building crack around 8 a.m. before concrete and materials began falling. She learned through a line group chat that a tenant was trapped, prompting her husband to hammer the door. The dormitory, built in 2554, had experienced flooding in the surrounding area over the previous 2-3 days from a nearby pond and canal, which may have contributed to the collapse.
The trapped resident said he heard the building crack 2-3 times that morning before it began to subside. He attempted to open the door but could not, so he shouted for help until the landlord arrived with a hammer. Another tenant recounted that the woman with the dog had recently fled military barracks flooding with her friend and the dog, and had been staying only 2-3 days when the collapse occurred.
