Woman Driver Arrested After White Mercedes Travels Nearly 1km Backwards on Vibhavadi Road
A 77-year-old woman driving a white Mercedes was arrested after traveling nearly one kilometre in reverse on Bangkok's Vibhavadi Road, caught on dashcam footage that went viral on Facebook. She faces three charges including reckless driving
A white Mercedes was spotted driving in reverse for nearly one kilometre on Vibhavadi Road's inbound lane before reaching the Lat Phrao intersection, after dashcam footage was shared on the "I Want to Go Viral Now Return Part 7" Facebook page. The post's caption read: "How does a luxury car drive the wrong way? I've only seen clips of others doing it, I never thought I'd see it in person."
Police reviewed CCTV and identified the vehicle's owner, summoning her for questioning. On September 8, 2569 (2026) at Vibhavadi Police Station, the 77-year-old driver, known as Nangda, and her daughter spent two hours giving statements and paid a fine before leaving. They declined to be interviewed.
Police filed three charges: reckless driving, violating traffic signs, and driving against the correct direction. The driver was ordered to appear at Bang Kapi District Court on September 9, 2569, which will decide whether to impound the Mercedes.
CCTV review revealed the car exited a major shopping mall, turned left onto Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road, travelled the inbound lane, made a U-turn at a junction, but instead of using the proper U-turn point, the driver made a sharp turn and drove backwards up the express lane for approximately one kilometre, nearly reaching the Bang Khae intersection.
