Woman Identified Driving White Mercedes the Wrong Way on Vibhavadi Road
A 60-year-old woman was identified after driving a white Mercedes in reverse down Bangkok's Vibhavadi Road near Lad Prao intersection on September 7, with dashcam footage capturing the hazardous incident.
A 60-year-old woman driving a white Mercedes has been identified after driving the wrong way down Vibhavadi Road in Bangkok. The incident was captured on dashcam by Jatuporn, 40, a local motorist, and posted to the social media page "I Want to Go Viral Return Part 7." The footage shows the white Mercedes traveling backward in the main traffic lane on Vibhavadi Road near Lad Prao intersection.
According to Jatuporn, the incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. on September 7. He was leaving his house to make a U-turn at Lad Prao intersection when he suddenly encountered the white Mercedes driving toward him in reverse. Though he and other drivers honked loudly, the car did not stop. Instead, the driver turned on her hazard lights and continued driving backward.
Jatuporn described the driver as a Thai woman around 60 years old who appeared calm and deliberate rather than panicked. He noted that in his many years driving on Vibhavadi Road, he had never witnessed such an incident on a main expressway, though confusion at the Lad Prao intersection sometimes causes drivers to enter the wrong lane. He speculated the woman may have exited a nearby shopping mall and accidentally entered the wrong lane from a U-turn point, but questioned why she did not stop to request help if she realized her mistake. He estimated the car traveled as far as Samian Nari Temple before exiting.
Lieutenant Puchong Maotuang from Vibhavadi Police Station confirmed that officers have identified the car owner through closed-circuit camera footage. The driver has been summoned for questioning and instructed to report at 1:00 p.m. on September 8.
