Thai Actor Nadech Hooked on Trail Running, Recruiting Friends for Hyrox
Thai actor Nadech Kugimiya completed his second trail run this year, covering 46.6 kilometres in under 11 hours, and is now recruiting friends to join him in the sport while planning to compete in next year's Hyrox challenge with his wife.
Young actor Nadech Kugimiya continues to stay fit, having now competed in his second trail run of the year. When met at the Air Superstar event at Central Westgate, he spoke enthusiastically about the joy and allure of running through nature and hinted at plans to partner with his wife Yaya Urassaya for next year's Hyrox challenge, emphasizing they will compete as equals.
When asked about his recent trail experience, Nadech said it was enjoyable and that he introduced friends to the sport. The course was approximately 45 kilometres—actually 46.6 kilometres—which he completed in 10 hours and 57 minutes. His goal was simply to finish and support his friends, some of whom were attempting their first trail run.
On what draws him to trail running, Nadech explained: "I feel there's less pressure in trail running compared to long-distance road running. The forest, greenery, wind, and scenery nourish the soul like energy given to us. Being out there feels more meaningful than just picnicking or camping. Trail runners are also incredibly kind—helping and looking out for each other because of the inherent risks like slipping or cramping. It creates a wonderful feeling."
He remained positive throughout, treating sections where walking was necessary as part of the experience. He noted this was his first 45-kilometre run through rubber plantations with hills offering high views, fresh air, and occasional rain. He joked that after burning so many calories, he could eat guilt-free upon returning.
On recovery, Nadech keeps training with ice baths, physiotherapy, yoga, and good nutrition with adequate protein and rest. He explained that most amateur trail runners walk uphill rather than run, and emphasized not to be intimidated by elevation—the body is capable of more than we think.
For the remainder of the year, he has one more trail run planned in October with his friend Mak and others—a 20-kilometre run that will include elements of adventure tourism, water activities, rafting, and sightseeing. This will be Mak's first trail running experience, which Nadech playfully "forced" him into. Mak initially questioned the purpose but came around after seeing how much Nadech enjoyed it, apparently finding the idea appealing.
