Thailand's Disaster Prevention Department has placed 39 provinces on alert for heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides through August 21, with northern and northeastern regions facing the highest risk.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department has issued alerts for 39 provinces across Thailand to prepare for heavy rainfall, flash floods, flash runoff, landslides, waterlogging, and strong waves between August 18-21, 2025. Seventeen northern provinces are on alert for flash floods and landslides, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uthai Thani, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, and Nakhon Sawan. Fifteen northeastern provinces are also warned, including Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Seven central provinces—Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chanthaburi, and Trat—are also under alert. Three southern provinces face strong wave warnings: Ranong (Muang Ranong, Kapoe, and Suksamran districts), Phang Nga (Kuraburi, Takua Pa, Thai Muang, Takua Thung, and Koh Yao districts), and Phuket (all districts). The Central Command has coordinated with 42 provinces and local disaster prevention centers to prepare for increased rainfall and potential flooding, with instructions to monitor weather closely, deploy emergency response teams and machinery to high-risk areas, establish temporary shelters, and close natural attractions such as waterfalls and caves if necessary. For strong waves, maritime authorities are instructed to issue warnings and prohibit water activities on beaches, and notify fishing crews and boat operators.
