Elderly Mercedes Driver Charged After Wrong-Way Highway Drive

A 77-year-old woman who was filmed driving a white Mercedes-Benz against traffic on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road reported to police and was charged over the incident. The case came to light after a dashcam video showed a white Mercedes-Benz travelling in the wrong direction along the main inbound lanes of Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, shortly before the Lat Phrao five-way intersection. The video was posted online with a caption expressing disbelief that a luxury vehicle had been seen driving against traffic.

Police subsequently reviewed CCTV footage and identified the registered owner of the Mercedes. She was then asked to report to Vibhavadi Police Station to give a statement about the incident. On Tuesday, the woman, identified as Da, 77, arrived at the station accompanied by her daughter. She gave evidence to investigators and acknowledged the charges, which initially included driving negligently and violating traffic signs, along with another charge. Da arrived in a black van wearing sunglasses and a face mask. She declined to answer questions from reporters.

Police later instructed her relatives to bring the Mercedes-Benz involved in the incident to the station for inspection. The vehicle is expected to be examined as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the wrong-way driving. Police will proceed with the case according to law. Reports said Da is a property developer and owns a real estate project in Bangkok's Ratchada area.
