82-Year-Old Woman Dies After Car Crashes Guan Yin Shrine
An 82-year-old woman died after an electric car crashed into the Guan Yin shrine at the Tian Fang Foundation in Bangkok. Police say the 78-year-old driver confused the brake and accelerator, leading to the collision that injured eight people. The driver faces three charges for reckless driving causing death and serious injuries.
On October 2, 2026, Pol. Col. Witthawat Kengkhun of Phlapphlachai 2 Police Station reported that an electric vehicle crashed into the Guan Yin shrine within the Tian Fang Foundation on Yaowarat Road, injuring eight people. Initially three were seriously hurt, including the 82-year-old woman who later died. The other two seriously injured victims were a woman with a pelvic fracture and a man with a broken leg; two more had minor injuries and six sustained slight injuries. The driver, a 78-year-old man, cooperated with officers, did not attempt to flee, and admitted he may have mixed up the brake and accelerator, causing the vehicle to surge forward. Police filed three charges against him: reckless act causing death, reckless act causing serious injury, and reckless act causing bodily or mental harm, noting that although the shrine is on private foundation property, driving into it constitutes a criminal act. Further proceedings will address compensation and civil damages next week, while this week the relatives will arrange religious rites with assistance from the local temple.
