Sandbags Burst At Ang Thong Drain Gate, Flooding 100+ Homes
Sandbag barriers at a drainage gate in Ang Thong Province failed after being overwhelmed by rising floodwaters, sending water into over 100 homes. Villagers rushed to move possessions to upper floors or onto roads while local authorities set up tents for temporary shelter. The Chao Phraya Dam’s discharge of 2,500 cubic meters per second has driven the river level to 9 meters, exceeding the danger threshold.
In Ang Thong Province, strong floodwaters overwhelmed sandbag barriers at a drainage gate, causing them to collapse and send water rushing into nearby villages. Reported on October 2, 2026, villagers in Moo 5, Tambon Phongphaeng, Amphoe Pha Mok scrambled to move belongings to upper floors or onto roads as over 100 homes were inundated. Village head Sathaporn Chatchai said the sandbag embankment gave way around 2 a.m., and the Chao Phraya Dam is releasing 2,500 cubic meters per second, pushing the river level at Ang Thong’s provincial hall to 9 meters, surpassing the 8‑meter danger mark. To reinforce defenses, additional sandbags have been placed along the Chao Phraya River near Pha Mok Bridge as a second line of protection against further inundation of the local market and roads.
