Electric Sedan Hits, Kills 78-Year-Old Woman on Motorcycle in Chumphon
A 78-year-old woman on a motorcycle was struck and killed by an electric sedan while signaling a right turn at an intersection in Chumphon province. The driver fled the scene but later surrendered to police, citing fear of retaliation from the victim's family. Authorities have charged the driver with reckless driving causing death and are investigating the vehicle's speed at the time of the crash.
An electric sedan crashed into a 78-year-old woman on a motorcycle as she signaled a right turn to change lanes, dragging her to her death. The driver, shocked, surrendered at the police station fearing retaliation from the victim's relatives.
At 10:30 AM on November 4, 2026, Pol. Lt. Pathompong Chummak, the duty inspector at Mueang Chumphon Police Station, received a report of a collision between a car and a motorcycle with a fatality at the Pathomphon intersection on Phetkasem Road, km 485, inbound lane, Wang Phai subdistrict, Mueang district, Chumphon province. He rushed to inspect the scene along with an on-duty doctor from Chumphon Hospital and rescue units from the Saichon Rescue Foundation and Chumphon Charitable Foundation.
At the scene, in the right traffic lane, a Bangkok-registered electric sedan was found stopped with severe front-end damage and a shattered driver-side windshield. The driver was not present, having gone to surrender at Mueang Chumphon Police Station immediately after the crash, fearing confrontation or trouble with the deceased's family.
About 20 meters away, the body of Mrs. Prathum (surname withheld), 78, was found with multiple fractures from the severe impact. Relatives who arrived at the scene wept in grief. Another 30 meters further, a red-and-white Honda Wave motorcycle lay on its side, its right turn signal still blinking.
Preliminary investigation revealed that before the accident, Mrs. Prathum had ridden her motorcycle out from under the Pathomphon overpass on the inbound side and activated her right turn signal to move across lanes to the far-right lane, intending to turn into Chumphon city center, just 150 meters from the turnoff.
Meanwhile, the sedan approached at high speed and slammed into her violently, causing her body to strike the windshield before the car dragged both her body and the motorcycle along the road surface.
Police documented the scene, collected evidence, and coordinated with rescuers to remove the body and vehicles to reopen traffic. The sedan driver will initially be charged with "reckless driving causing death," and police will examine the vehicle's speed data as evidence for legal proceedings.
