Thailand Chosen to Host 2027 Asian BMX Cycling Championship
Thailand has been unanimously chosen to host the 2027 Asian BMX Cycling Championship, a key Olympic qualifying event, following praise for its successful organization of the inaugural 2026 edition.
The Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) has unanimously voted to make Thailand the host nation for the 2027 Asian Children's BMX Racing Championship (second edition), following praise for Thailand's excellent standards in organizing the first edition. The Thai Cycling Sports Association has also confirmed its readiness to host the 2027 Asian BMX Championship, which serves as an important qualifying venue for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Lt. Gen. Decha Mekrasri, ACC Vice President, ACF President, and President of the Thai Cycling Sports Association, revealed that he attended the ACC Management Committee meeting on August 6 at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, chaired by Dato Amarjit Singh Gill. The main agenda was voting on the host country for the 2027 event, which passed unanimously in Thailand's favor. The competition date and venue will be announced later.
Mekrasri noted that the committee praised Thailand's successful organization of the 2026 Asian Children's BMX Racing Championship on June 6-7, citing excellent management, team hospitality, and comprehensive facilities. Multiple nations including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, and the Philippines have confirmed they will send large delegations to next year's competition, though some cited time constraints from the first event.
The Thai Cycling Sports Association has also confirmed readiness to host the 2027 Asian BMX Championship from May 28-30, 2027, at the BMX Racing Supercross track at Suwan Sports Park on Suwintawong Road, Bangkok—Asia's only supercross-level venue. This event is crucial for earning quotas for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, as Asian BMX champions automatically qualify for the Games.
On other matters, Kazakhstan proposed adding a youth category (ages 14-16) to the Asian Road Cycling Championship, though the proposal remains under review. Additionally, the Track Asia Cup 2026 is scheduled for August 28-30 at the Hua Mark Velodrome in Bangkok, with Thailand being one of five official host venues across Asia alongside Uzbekistan and others.
