Anutin Rebukes Ban Sang Chief Over Flood Response, Orders Probe
Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul rebuked Ban Sang District Chief Setthawut Wongloewut for failing to cooperate on flood relief, calling the situation shameful. He ordered a disciplinary and attitude investigation after confirming the district chief’s lack of enthusiasm and delayed actions. The move follows a formal transfer request from Prachinburi Governor Chanathip Kokmony.
Anutin said he had learned on 6 October that Governor Chanathip had formally asked for the transfer of Setthawut due to his lack of cooperation in flood response. He noted that an investigation by the Director-General of the Provincial Administration Department confirmed the allegations, finding that the district chief was unenthusiastic, slow to act, and repeatedly postponed tasks, saying he would do them the next morning. The minister expressed sorrow that such individuals exist within the administration, especially given Ban Sang's status as one of the country’s most flood‑affected districts. He ordered the Deputy Governor of Prachinburi, who is currently acting as governor, to explain why the letter was sent and to report on the progress of the investigation. Anutin also instructed the Director-General of the Provincial Administration Department to conduct a thorough disciplinary and attitude review, stating that officials who fail to uphold their duty to protect the public should not remain in the civil service.
