Human Skeleton Found in Burnt Truck Near Trang Reservoir
Police discovered a burnt pickup truck near the Thang Ngiu Reservoir in Trang Province with a human skeleton inside the front passenger seat. The vehicle was identified as belonging to 36‑year‑old Thiphawan from Songkhla Province, whose phone number had been disconnected; her father was contacted after she could not be reached. Investigators are treating the case as a suspicious death while witnesses recall seeing the truck parked for days before the fire.
At 8:00 p.m. on October 6, 2024, police received a report of a vehicle fire near the Thang Ngiu Reservoir in Huai Yot District, Trang Province. Officers from Huai Yot Police Station, along with rescue volunteers from the Sanguan Phakdee Trang Foundation, arrived to find a Mitsubishi Triton four‑door pickup, lowered suspension, completely engulfed in flames that had started at the front and spread throughout the vehicle. After extinguishing the blaze, rescuers discovered a human‑like object on the front passenger seat; the skeletal remains were seated on the seat while the skull had fallen to the footwell.
License‑plate checks showed the truck was registered to Thiphawan (surname withheld), a 36‑year‑old woman from Songkhla Province. When police called the phone number listed in her household registration, they found it had been disconnected. They then contacted her father, who said he had been unable to reach her.
Villagers living near the reservoir said they had seen the truck parked at the spot since the morning of October 5, assuming it belonged to someone fishing, as the area is commonly used by anglers. One villager, assistant village headman Suriya Mi‑tem, said he had seen a thin, tall man wearing a cap standing near the truck around 1:00 a.m. on October 6 while he was tapping rubber trees, but he did not pay attention, thinking the person was waiting for help to pull the truck out of mud.
Around 7:00 p.m. on October 6, after returning from work, Suriya noticed the truck still parked and later received word from a local volunteer group that the vehicle was on fire. He rode his motorcycle to the scene, observed flames starting in the engine compartment and rapidly spreading to the cabin, and alerted the village headman to call police and request a fire engine.
Rescue team leader Thanakit Sai‑phia from the Sanguan Phakdee Trang Foundation reported that, after examining the remains, the body appeared to have been seated facing away from the dashboard, and the fire likely caused the head to detach and fall to the footwell. Preliminary investigations by the Huai Yot Police detective unit are ongoing.
