Pattaya Provincial Prosecutors filed charges on September 17 against Simon Peter Carman, an Australian national, in case number 61/2569 at Pattaya Provincial Court. He faces charges of intentional murder, clandestine burial, concealment, moving or destruction of a corpse to cover up death or its cause, abduction of a minor aged 15-18 from parents or guardians for immoral purposes with the minor's consent, and transporting a minor aged 15-18 for immoral purposes even with consent.
The case stems from the disappearance of a 17-year-old Thai girl after entering a condominium in the Jomtien area of Pattaya on June 25. Police investigation located her body inside a suitcase abandoned near railway tracks in Pattaya.
Authorities apprehended Carman at Suvarnabhumi Airport and proceeded with investigation, gathering evidence and forwarding the case file to prosecutors for review. On September 17, Pattaya Provincial Prosecutors ordered the charges filed with the Pattaya Provincial Court, which scheduled the defendant's examination for September 18.
The filing of charges constitutes one step in the justice process. The case remains under court consideration, and the defendant is presumed innocent until final judgment.
