Thailand, China Sign Submarine Support Agreement
Thailand and China signed a military support agreement to accelerate delivery of Thailand's S26T submarine project, with both nations committed to ensuring the vessel enters service on schedule or ahead of time.
The Royal Thai Navy has signed a military assistance agreement with China to support its S26T submarine acquisition project, aiming to accelerate the program and deliver the vessel on or ahead of schedule. Defense Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun witnessed the signing ceremony on September 17, 2026, at the Beijing International Convention Center during the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum. Navy Commander Naruest Seubwattana signed the agreement on behalf of Thailand's armed forces.
The signing represents a major milestone in the submarine project and demonstrates concrete military cooperation between the two nations' armed forces. Both countries are committed to supporting the project's execution to ensure the Thai Navy receives an efficient, fully operational submarine capable of entering service on target. The Thai Navy has consistently monitored and driven the project forward while prioritizing coordination between the two countries, addressing potential obstacles, and safeguarding national and naval interests.
