Thailand Marks China's 77th Anniversary, Strengthens 50-Year Ties
Thailand and China marked 50 years of diplomatic relations at a ceremony in Bangkok, with Prime Minister Anutin pledging enhanced cooperation in peace, economic growth, and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul attended a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China at the Sirikit National Convention Centre on September 17, according to deputy government spokesperson Lalida Periwittawat. Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Wu Zhiwu, Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy to Thailand, and presented flowers as a gesture of goodwill. The Prime Minister and guests observed a moment of silence to pay respects to the late Queen Sirikit, Queen Mother, and Princess Bajrakitiyabha.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister congratulated China on behalf of the Thai government, noting that China's development benefits not only its citizens but plays a crucial role in driving economic growth across the region and the world. He emphasized that Thailand is undergoing significant transformation as the government restructures the economy to build strong, sustainable, and inclusive growth while strengthening Thailand's role in benefiting the region.
The Prime Minister highlighted the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations, marking a golden milestone. He also referenced his visit to China in July as Prime Minister, during which he met with leading Chinese technology companies, Thai private sector representatives, and attended the opening of the Board of Investment office in Chengdu. He held discussions with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and National People's Congress Chairman Zhao Leji, with both sides agreeing to elevate cooperation in three key areas.
First, peace and security: Thailand and China will jointly promote regional peace and security, support adherence to international frameworks and rules, and prioritize public safety, particularly through collaboration to eliminate online fraud schemes from the region as quickly as possible.
Second, future opportunities: Both countries will advance economic, trade, and investment cooperation alongside tourism, improve logistical and digital connectivity, and promote joint investment in technology, innovation, and future industries to create new economic opportunities and support continued growth.
Third, sustainable quality of life: Thailand and China will jointly promote sustainable development and high-quality investment while protecting ecosystems and addressing environmental challenges including water and air pollution to improve citizens' quality of life sustainably.
In closing, the Prime Minister wished for enduring, stable, and flourishing friendship between the Thai and Chinese peoples, reaffirming that both nations will create new opportunities and advance together toward a prosperous future.
