Anti-Israel Sentiment in Thailand Shifts from Tourism Complaints to Political Activism

Israeli Ambassador to Thailand Alona Fisher-Kamm told Ynetnews that anti-Israel sentiment in the country has shifted from frustration over the behavior of Israeli tourists and expatriates to coordinated political protests. In an interview, Fisher-Kamm noted that demonstrations outside the Israeli Embassy, including chants of "Free Palestine," showed the issue extended beyond tourism concerns.

Fisher-Kamm stated: "If the demonstration had only been about improving Israeli behavior or opposing the presence of Israelis in Thailand, then chants of 'Free Palestine' and insults against Jews should not have been there."

A key organizer of recent protests is Te Acheewa, who leads a group called "Thai Intolerance" with over one million Facebook followers. Te, previously known for documenting illegal migrant workers and ultra-royalist activism, organized the first anti-Israeli demonstration at the embassy in Bangkok and later led approximately 500 protesters outside a Chabad House in Patong, Phuket. The Chabad House subsequently canceled Jewish New Year celebrations after receiving security advisories from Israeli authorities.

Although Te initially claimed his movement focused solely on Thai domestic issues unrelated to Gaza or the West Bank, he has since claimed to be monitored by Mossad. In a recent Facebook post, Te challenged the Israeli intelligence service directly, stating his actions were defending Thai people and would be remembered long-term. His group's Facebook page, with over 100,000 members, has become a platform for discussing anti-Israeli sentiment, with members sharing comparisons to international disputes.
