Authorities Raid Ayutthaya Bar, Find Drugs in 20 Visitors

At 2:30 a.m. on September 13, 2026, District Officer Porapon Kantichaimongkol led a combined force of about 40 administrative officials, provincial protection officers, Uthai Police, and civil defense volunteers into a surprise inspection of an entertainment venue in Khanam Subdistrict, Uthai District, Ayutthaya Province, following complaints that it was operating past legal hours and involved in drug trafficking. Officers blocked all three entry and exit points before conducting a thorough search. During the operation, some tourists attempted to force their way out, but officers maintained control of the situation. Inside, officers discovered multiple bags containing suspected drugs including methamphetamine, ice, and shabu, along with paraphernalia such as smoking tubes and used bags scattered throughout, particularly in the restrooms. One tourist was found carrying a small bag of suspected methamphetamine in his pants pocket and was detained for further investigation.

District Officer Porapon disclosed that prior to this raid, his office had conducted multiple inspections of the venue and conducted undercover purchases, which revealed evidence of drug sales and operating hours violations. Officers then checked identification documents and conducted urine tests on nearly 200 tourists over approximately two hours. The screening identified 20 individuals testing positive for controlled substances: nine women and 11 men. All were detained and referred to Uthai Police Station for legal proceedings. Officers confirmed no minors under 18 were present, and several of those who tested positive admitted to drug use.

The venue owner and associated individuals remain under investigation. Authorities are preparing to submit a report to the Ayutthaya Provincial Governor recommending administrative measures, including a five-year closure order if legal criteria are satisfied. Those found with drugs and the venue operator will face prosecution.
