Ayutthaya Floods Isolate Village, 100 Homes Need Boat Access
Heavy flooding in Ayutthaya Province has isolated the Ban Ko community, leaving over 100 households dependent on boats for travel. Although dam outflows have been reduced, waters remain high across 16 districts, damaging homes and corn fields. Residents say flood warnings arrived too late, urging faster alerts to better prepare for future events.
On October 14, 2026, reporters confirmed that many communities along the Chao Phraya, Pa Sak Rivers and their tributaries remain inundated despite lowered dam outflows. In Ban Ko Village, Tambon Ban Ko, Amphoe Ban Ko, more than 100 homes and the main access roads are still underwater, forcing residents to park cars and motorcycles at nearby bridges and travel by boat. Villager Lieutenant Supphanut Wudphisan, 53, said water levels have only dropped 5-10 centimeters in the past three days, leaving the main road still flooded. He noted that while annual flooding is common, this year’s surge arrived rapidly after September 25, giving residents little time to protect belongings or crops, especially the famed fragrant corn. He also criticized the tardiness of flood warnings, which previously gave about a month’s notice but now arrive only two days before water rises to a meter, leaving no time for preparation. Residents acknowledge the inherent risk of living near the Pa Sak River but urge authorities to improve early‑warning systems to reduce future losses.
