Bangkok Governor Denies Corruption Claims in EV Waste Truck Project
Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittiphan denied corruption allegations over a stalled electric vehicle waste truck project, pledging transparency and cooperation with the city council to clarify details.
On September 18 at Bangkok City Hall, Governor Chatchart Sittiphan addressed the electric vehicle waste truck project that had its funding cut. He stated that while most people agree garbage trucks should eventually transition to electric power, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is ready to have officials clarify details to the city council following proper procedure. The governor firmly denied any corruption or misconduct, emphasizing that the project operates with complete transparency and continuous official scrutiny. Since the project has not yet been approved, the city will temporarily continue renting diesel-powered waste trucks. "Since becoming governor, I have understood the need to work cooperatively with the Bangkok Metropolitan Council—I am not anyone's enemy," Chatchart said. "We want to deliver the greatest benefit to the people, but please do not accuse us of corruption or misconduct. We do not operate that way. We must work together for the people's benefit."
