Miss International Queen 2026 brought together transgender contestants from around the world in Pattaya, where Thai-American contestant Lo Colby, representing the United States, took the crown. Thailand's Theerachaya Pimkitidaj was named first runner-up, while Japan's Saki Iwai finished second runner-up.
The three queens visited Khaosod English on Wednesday to discuss what brought them to the competition, the challenges they have faced, and how they hope to use their new platforms.
During the Q&A, Lo, Theerachaya, and Saki spoke less about the competition than about family, mental health, visibility, confidence, and the work they believe still lies ahead for transgender people around the world.
Lo Colby, the new Miss International Queen, spoke about finally connecting with family she had never met before and experiencing the warmth of Thai culture. "In Thailand, you are celebrated for being different," she said. "You're celebrated for being an individual. And there is a general sense of respect for all."
Colby emphasized her desire to spread the message that transgender women and trans people are capable, beautiful, intelligent, and deserving of equal opportunities. She also highlighted differences between American and Thai cultures, noting that in the U.S., being too different often leads to people being looked down upon, whereas in Thailand there is greater acceptance of individuality.
When asked about her biggest challenge, Colby reflected on the pressure of pageantry and the expectation to conform, saying "the biggest challenge is to get out of my own way."
